Its been a while, i know i know....exams came, but now im done so here i am again.
I have been meditating at a special passage from the Bible today,
"When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, seths the whole course of his life on fire." (James 3:3-6).
I like to read these verses pretty much whenever I can. They are always a good reminder of the fact that I need to keep a good guard on my mouth. So often people get hurt because of words they didn't even mean to say. The sad thing is that I only became aware of this after it happened to me. Sometimes words hurt more than a bruise.
When I was a kid, I hated that every time I did something wrong my parents would give me a lecture instead of a good punishment. I would've gladly give up cartoons, sweets, or even playtime with my friends, anything as long as I didn't get to see them all sad and hear them say I've dissapointed them. Fortunately, this didn't happen very often.
Last week I tried that every time I opened my mouth to say something that might hurt someone, to replace the potential "weapon" with some words of encouragement, or a smile.
And yesterday at church a lady came up to me and told me that whenever she felt down the passing week, she thought of me, and how I always have a big smile on my face when I'm around people. And it was a great encouragement to me!
So my prayer is that I will continue to touch people with my smile, and not hurt them with my words....
